Nightside Project - 2018-01-31

Ethan Millard and Taylor Powers interview Brandon Wright, producer for the film I Am Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson ran for President of The United States in 2016 as a candidate for the Libertarian Party.  His running mate was Bill Weld, the former Republican governor of Massachusetts. Gary Johnson was a Republican governor of New Mexico before switching to the Libertarian Party. 2016 seemed like the perfect year for a Libertarian candidate.  Both the Republican and Democratic candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, were widely disliked.  Johnson and Weld seemed like an opportunity to put a more familiar face on a smaller party. The socially liberal and fiscally conservative profile of libertarianism appeals to a lot of people.  Young people and Millennials are particularly into it.  For some reason, they just won't break away from the Republican/ Democrat duopoly. The film was directed by Brando Eaton (Zoey 101, Do Not Disturb, Dexter, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, Melissa & Joey, Awkward) and produced by Danny Thompson (Flip Men, Pop Wrapped TV), and Brandon Wright. The documentary includes behind the scenes footage of the presidential campaign.  In addition to Gary Johnson and Bill Weld, you'll see Mitt Romney, Mario DeAngelis,  Larry Sharpe, R.J. Lyman, Nicholas Sarwark, and Daniel Fishman.
